Blood Donations Needed
It is World Blood Donor Day and the Belize National Blood Transfusion Services need safe blood and blood products for transfusion. Your voluntary blood donation to the bank contributes to its hundred percent blood donation target. Supervisor Adrian Martinez told News Five where they stand with donations at the moment.

“They got different type of donors. They got the replacement, the therapeutic and the volunteer blood donors. When you give voluntary we can use that blood for any accident, surgery, you name it and we use that blood for.”
Paul Lopez
“What is the need of the blood bank currently in terms of quantity? Is there ever a time when the blood bank says, we have enough blood, too much blood, we cannot take anymore?”
Adrian Martinez
“The target is a hundred percent voluntary blood donation. We are at eleven point six this year and the rest is replacement. Replace is you give what you have used, or you reserve that unit for a specific procedure. We are way below target. However, it is a continuous educational process and we want to get the community involved to build this culture to be at a hundred percent volunteer. Whenever that happens, the outcry from the public, you will not see that going about. Because most of the time you will hear the request and they are asking for blood donations.”
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Give Blood and Keep the World Beating.”
