International Children’s Hospital president on tour
The President of the International Children’s Hospital, the Honorary Counsel of New Orleans and actor Dennis Quaid are in Belize for a tour of medical facilities that have benefited from I.C.H. donations and services. Dr. Mayer Heiman founder of the hospital and Honorary Counsel Jean Bernand and other board members including Dennis Quaid were met at the airport by the Mayor of Belize City David Fonseca this afternoon. They then toured the pediatric ward of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The I.C.H. was founded in 1981 in New Orleans as a non-profit hospital without walls. Volunteer doctors and nurses traveled to other countries and brought children to the U.S. for surgery. Through the Belize Association in New Orleans, the I.C.H. has donated supplies to the K.H.M.H., Mercy Clinic and Sister Cecilia Home. Earlier this year Dr. Heiman visited Belize and has been sending medical supplies to Southern Belize. This week the team will tour the San Ignacio Hospital and clinics in Dangriga and Independence.
