Dr. Musa: targeted measures may be necessary for Belize City

Dr. Mark Musa

Doctor Musa says it may soon be time for measures to be put in place that are specific to Belize City, considering the increasing daily number of positive cases coming out of these densely populated communities. He also cautioned young people in particular to take COVID-19 seriously.

Dr. Mark Musa, Internist

“If we are seeing concerning numbers, hospitalization going, we have to encourage persons to bring down the transmission by following the guidance. We need targeted measures by the Government. If we see Belize City over the last four weeks everyday getting thirty positive cases, then there has to be measures for Belize. People have to start taking personal responsibility. I think If you are a young person, you have to view yourself, and though the evidence say otherwise, you might say my risk with the virus is minimal, that is not showing in what is happening in the unvaccinated young people in the States and in other places. The vaccine offers so much more protection at saving their lives. You have to then look at it that the vaccine is additional; you might say well I’m a fit person I will take care of myself, that is good, but you also have to realize that you can be a transmitter of the virus to your household, to your vulnerable parents, grandparents or whoever. So you then have to look at yourself as a spreader as well. The vaccination cannot be a selfish decision. It is not just about you. This is not an individual disease. This is being spread by human to human contact.”
