Will There be a Legal Challenge to COVID Restrictions?

News Five is trying to get confirmation of a report made on social media today, which claimed that at least one two Mennonite communities have lawyered up to challenge the Government of Belize on the COVID regulations. The report is that the two communities, through their business partners, are raising funds to cover the legal costs for three attorneys who they have hired to take on the case. It also refers to what is purported to be a private email between a representative for one of the parties and the other where it was mentioned that the communities are looking for between twenty and thirty volunteers to put their names forward as claimants for the lawsuit.  Today, News Five contacted one of the community leaders in Spanish Lookout this morning, but disavowed that community’s involvement.  We are still attempting to get confirmation from the attorneys being named and will have more on this story on Friday.
