Lockdown Time Again!!
For the next two weeks, starting on Sunday, September nineteenth, mainland Belize will be in a semi-lockdown for two weeks. With the exception of Hopkins, Placencia, Caye, Caulker, and San Pedro, all tourist destinations, cities, towns and villages are subject to a nightly curfew beginning at seven p.m. Prime Minister Briceño details the upcoming changes.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“We are once again faced with circumstances that require collective action and so to deal with the precarious situation we currently face to guard the health and economy of the nation and on the advice of our healthcare professionals, Cabinet is forced to take drastic measures by enforcing the following restrictions. Starting Sunday, the [nineteenth] of September 2021 and for the next two weeks, the new measures are as follows: One: a curfew is imposed countrywide starting at seven p.m. to four a.m., except for Caye Caulker, San Pedro, Placencia and Hopkins where the curfew will remain from nine p.m. to four a.m. Two: restaurants will only be able to provide takeout service, except for restaurants in San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Placencia and Hopkins. Three: casinos and churches are to be closed. Four: any form of contact sport is not allowed. Five: Sunday, the twenty-sixth of September and Sunday, the third of October, 2021 will be declared no movement days, except for medical attention to purchase medication, groceries, or fuel. We are implementing these measures because projections from the Ministry of Health and Wellness show that if nothing is done we can expect to see an increase in daily COVID infections of up to two hundred and fifty new confirmed cases.”
