Exemptions for Local Tourism; but Reservations Needed

Now tourist destinations such as San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Hopkins and Placencia, curfew begins at nine p.m. and not seven o’clock like the rest of the country.  While residents are allowed to spend time at resorts across the country, ComPol breaks down what will be expected of them who will be traversing the various highways to get to and from their destinations.

“A number of Belizeans may go to spend the weekend at different resorts across the country, and so they may go on a Sunday, or they may be coming back from the resort on a Sunday. Now you might ask now, will I be allowed to go to a resort or go to a hotel on Sunday, or will I be able to go home on a Sunday, concerned the fact that it is a no-movement day. The answer to that is yes, so long as you can produce your reservation for that hotel, and to show the police that you are going to stay at a particular hotel or resort, you’ll be allowed to move on that Sunday. And, likewise, if you can show police that you are coming from a particular resort on a Sunday, you likewise, will be allowed to go home on that particular Sunday. I had explained the issue in a previous interview as it relates to the PGIA. The fact that it remains open, people may have family members or friends or relatives who will be coming in to the country on Sunday. And so, all you need to do is to produce an itinerary for that person that you will be going to the airport to pick up to the police, and the police will allow you to go the airport. And likewise, for coming from the airport, you produce an itinerary again or the passport for your friend or relative who came in, and again the police will allow you to go home or to whatever destination you may need to go with that relative or friend. So, that is just to make it clear, and again just to emphasize the point that the no movement Sunday applies across the board, countrywide. There is no exception when it comes to San Pedro Caye Caulker, Hopkins or Placencia. So it doesn’t matter where you are in the country, you must abide by the no movement Sunday rules.”
