Chandra Cansino Appointed the New C.E.O. of the K.H.M.H.
She is well known as the General Manager for Corporate Customer Relations Services at the Social Security Board. But, over the weekend, the news broke that Chandra Nisbet-Cansino has been chosen as the new C.E.O. of the K.H.M.H. Her appointment comes just days after the previous choice of Doctor Michael Tewes was met with such a strong backlash the offer was rescinded. But some would say that Cansino was made for the job. She’s a registered nurse with extensive experience in administration. She also has a history with the national referral hospital.
Chandra Cansino, Incoming C.E.O., K.H.M.H.
“I am honoured to be the newest member of the K.H.M.H. team. My professional navel string buried at Karl Heusner; I was there in the first shift in 1995 when we moved from the old Belize City Hospital to the K.H.M.H. So I have been there from day one. And I was happy to sit on the board in 2013, 2014, 2015 and now I have an opportunity to make a positive difference. When I saw the vacancy I said well I meet the qualifying conditions and I applied and thankfully here I am today. Part of my role is to work with the Board of Governors of the K.H.M.H.A. I have absolutely no say whatsoever into who sits on the board and who…I mean my function is strictly to be able to work with anyone who sits on the board of the K.H.M.H.A. and so that is precisely what I am going to do regardless of who those persons are. In regards to the union’s representation, I think it is very important to have the unions at the table, at the point of decision-making. I think it helps to improve that communication between the management and the broader staff; they really represent a large percentage of the workers at Karl Heusner and so I see that particular move as something positive.”
On the heels of the announcement of Casino’s selection, today the Ministry of Health and Wellness outlined some additional changes. C.E.O. Doctor Deysi Mendez has been replaced by Doctor Julio Sabido as the Ministry of Health and Wellness representative on the Board of Governors. Doctor David Hoy and Francois Chebat have tendered their resignations and will be replaced by Doctor Fernando Cuellar and Daisy Codd. The laws governing the institution will also be amended to allow for the K.H.M.H.A. Workers’ Union to have a seat on the board. While congratulating Cansino on her appointment, the ministry thanks Tim Seguro for holding over as interim C.E.O. for the K.H.M.H.
