KHMH Needs More Staff; Some Workers Contracting COVID Outside

And while the hospital is looking after the mental health of its overworked health care workers in the COVID Unit, CEO Cansino also has to address the need for additional staffing at the hospital. It’s a drawn out crisis that is becoming more of a burden on the daily running of the hospital as an increasing number of staff members are contracting COVID 19. CEO Cansino told us more.

“That is a work in progress. We are working along with the Ministry to try to supplement the staff that we now have. Having sat down to see the entire population of staff there versus the other units, there may need to be some movements there. It all depends, but certainly, yes, the need for staff is very important. Now, we actually have a lot of staff members that are becoming positive for COVID19. That further depletes the staff. So, we are trying to work with the doctors and the nurses at the KHMH to see how best staff members are not getting burned out.”

“Are they being infected in the hospital?”

“I was asking these questions preliminarily and it seems that the majority of our staff are being infected outside of the hospital at this time.”

“I don’t have the exact number. But they are giving us a percentage of out of, out of every five persons infected, four would have been infected outside of the hospital. That is as best as you can trace it.”
