Two Belizean Parliamentarians to Attend Taiwanese Forum
The Speaker of the House and Deputy Clerk are headed to Taiwan for a five-day visit. Speaker Valerie Woods will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and the head of the Taiwanese legislature. Woods is accompanied by the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Clarita Pech, and the two will attend the 2021 Open Parliament Forum that begins December second. According to Focus on Taiwan online news, the forum, themed “Open Parliament in a Post-COVID Context: Global Examples of Resilience and Planning for 2022 and Beyond,” will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Legislature and the Washington-headquartered National Democratic Institute, which opened its Taipei office earlier this year. Baltic parliamentarians will also join the two-day forum in person, while 21 lawmakers from 15 countries will participate virtually. Deputy Speaker Marconi Leal will preside over Friday’s House meeting in Speaker Wood’s absence.
