Outbreaks at Several Downtown Businesses

On Wednesday, A & R Store in Belize City was closed, reportedly after several employees tested positive for COVID-19. And so was Atlantic Bank’s Albert Street Branch in downtown Belize City. On Wednesday that bank sent out notices via email to say that the branch would be closed on the twenty-ninth and tonight, that branch remained shuttered. News Five has been reliably informed that there is an outbreak at that particular branch of the bank with over a dozen employees having tested positive for the virus. Today, we also noticed that the Albert Street Branch of Smart was also closed. Residents who have been trying to take advantage of the company’s double up were surprised to find the outlet closed and began calling our studios. A call made to a telemarketer confirmed that at least one member of staff there has also tested positive. With a strong possibility that the omicron variant is in Belize, businesses and residents are implored to exercise public health recommendations: wear your facemasks, wash your hands regularly and social distance.
