Border Reopening Postponed to Feb 7th

First, it was January first, then February first. Now, yet another date has been set for the reopening of the borders with Mexico and Guatemala. The proposed new date is one week from today, Monday, February seventh.  The Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, told News Five via text over the weekend that this will “allow Cabinet time to review the recommendations of the COVID Medical Advisory Team and to ensure that all preparations are set in place for a smooth reopening”. Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler said it is only a one week delay requested by the Ministry of Health.

“It is just by one week and we want to get things right before we open up to the flows to and from Guatemala specifically. So, it is just to get things right. We are delayed by one week. You guys have been working on this for quite a while, so what are some of the things that we are going be seeing. Of course you are talking about people needing to be vaccinated, but what else? You have a new Minister of Health and Wellness, so he wanted to ensure certain things are in place, to make sure his Ministry are ready at the borders, and so he asked for an extra week, and that is all.”
