Ministry Contemplates Boosters for Kids!

One shot that may soon also be available is COVID boosters for children between the ages of twelve and seventeen. Dr. Diaz-Musa has more on this and pop-up vaccine clinics.

Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa, Deputy Manager, Central Health Region

“This is something that we are in constant discussion about and the final memo has not come out to us yet as the regional managers but we’re looking forward to that for more than likely this week or early next week. Again, Dr. Beer would be the focal point person who would be sending out this memo so we’re awaiting that and getting our sites prepared. And I just wanted to also mention that in the Belize District with regard to the vaccine sites, we have not started to do pop-up vaccine sites in different areas and these are advertised on our flyers, at the Facebook page, Central Health Region. We do plan to go every Saturday to the Michael Finnegan market; we’re also at Battlefield Park; we’re also at Mirab’s. So Battlefield Park will be every Tuesday morning and at Mirab’s on the highway every Wednesday morning and at Michael Finnegan Market every other Saturday, so the Saturday of the fifteenth and the Saturday of the ending of the month. We also have many other places that we’re going to and there are pop-up vaccine spots on Queen Street sometimes so we’re asking the general public to just be on the lookout in these areas and it’s easy, efficient. It’s accessible and we’re asking that you take the opportunity at that time if you do see one of the Ministry of Health and Wellness’s teams out there to come in and get your vaccine.”

Dr. Diaz-Musa says that swabbing will still be done at Swift Hall in Belize City, but only from eight to twelve since the number of persons showing up has decreased. The swabbing sites at the Belize Civic Centre and the Central Health Region will remain open throughout the day.
