Could Lower COVID Numbers Lead to Change in Curfew?

Russell Manzanero

Manzanero notes that graphs are projections based on a model of the current trend. It is not an exact science, but could be pretty accurate if the daily positivity rate continues to trend downward. Other variables are the enforcement of COVID-19 regulations as well as the vaccination uptake. But, what about the curfew? Will lower numbers lead to the end of this restriction?

Russell Manzanero, Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health & Wellness

“In regards to curfew that is definitely something we take into consideration. I mean when we talk about curfew and lock downs, we are not talking about lockdowns that is something in the past that we used, and many countries did the same, and you are still going to see that somehow the virus is going to spread. With curfews in place and the limited mobility of individuals, it does tend to create some kind of barrier. An individual seems to adhere at some points. However, even if throughout the time, and within the day everybody in congregating within the work force, among ourselves, there is still that risk there of spreading. That is why the public health measures have to go along with these curfews. So, we really can’t just say curfews and let that happen. It tends to go along with certain measures. We are hoping that the vaccination update is still there. And, we need to encourage people to still do it. At this point we are seeing Omicron affecting anybody. It can affect any group. What we are seeing is that the re-infection can be more than once. So, you can be re-infected even if you are vaccinated.”
