Regional Health Facilities Need Upgrades
The upgrade to five health care facilities in Belize brings into sharp focus the need for infrastructure improvements across the country. Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard says that he is going to seek funding to retrofit and upgrade the Southern Regional Hospital, the Northern Regional Hospital as well as the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness
“Let’s look right next door, K.H.M.H. badly in need of some major upliftment; that’s a major issue. Northern Regional Hospital – when I went to the San Ignacio Community Hospital last week, I was like wow, why is it that the Southern Regional [Hospital] which we are hearing has so many issues; Northern Regional Hospital that desperately needs some repairs as well. These are the things that I think we need to start to look at. Health is not only the service that is provided, but the infrastructure needs to be there, the adequate equipments need to be there and the medication and supplies need to be there in order for the doctors and the nurses and the patient care assistants that are working day in and day out to be able to provide a much more quality healthcare to our general population.”
