P.M. Briceño Speaks on Regional Peace and Security in the EU
P.M. Briceño also acknowledged the European Union’s efforts to support regional peace and security, referencing Guatemala’s unfounded claim to Belize’s territory, and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. P.M. Briceño called on the EU to bolster its support to the Ukrainian people.

“Allow me minute to express on behalf of the people of Belize and our neighbor Guatemala, our sincere appreciation to the EU for its efforts at regional peace and security. Your commitment to the Culture of Peace Program and in our efforts to find a peaceful and lasting resolution of Guatemala’s unfounded territorial claim to Belize territory is invaluable and continues to be important. Like you, we desire to live in peace. For this reason, we strongly condemn what is currency occurring in Ukraine. We encourage the EU to bolster their support for the Ukrainian people. Excellences, Belize like the Caribbean is working towards meaningful sustainable development, and the economic transformation of our people. To this end, we will continue mobilizing resources and expertise that will help with the advancement of our people. We look forward to the support and engagement of our EU counterparts, especially as we seek to address global inflation, food security, and energy security.”
Also on Tuesday, Prime Minister John Briceño met with the President of the European Investment Bank and his team, alongside Nardia Garcia, the CEO in the Office of the Prime Minister, and Dr Osmond Martinez, the CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development, to discuss issues of importance to Belize such as climate finance, climate smart agriculture and technical support, and financing of public-private partnership projects. The European Development Days Forum was a two days event which concluded today.
