Belize Hotels Association Holds its Annual General Meeting

The Belize Hotels Association held its Annual General Meeting today at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel. Over one hundred of the association’s membership was in attendance. Outgoing President, Alina Saldivar served in that capacity for a year and earlier today she told News Five that it was a good year, despite the challenges. But, she alluded to strict business principles that they will have to embark on moving forward.

“Our members really did well. All of us, we rode the free ride called Revenge Travel. But I don’t know how much longer that will last. I think we’re going to have to start working for our money now, starting this year, as things normalize some more. For the Association it was still a little bit trying because it was still not a fully normal year for us to really do what we usually do. We need to do a lot of international promotion, but that involved being in rooms with thousands of people and with all the other destinations as all the other Caribbean and tourism destinations do. They go out there at these huge shows and – but it was still iffy if we would have the audience if people would be in a room with thousands of people. So we were very cautious in that spending, so we’re going to be in overdrive this year. And I think the opportunities for us out there are a lot better now that things are back to normal.”

Elections for new board members were held and we’ll have the results of those elections on Monday.
