Child returns after tumor surgery
Almost a month ago, on December fourth, four year old Neri Orellano left the country to undergo surgery to remove a tumor that was lodged in his spinal cord. The condition caused the little boy a great deal of pain and he had trouble walking and urinating. Thanks to Friends of Pediatrics and their counterparts in the U.S. Orellano was successfully treated at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The association says the tumor was completely removed and they expect Orellano to have one hundred percent recovery and lead a normal life. In related news, Friends of Pediatrics says it would like to thank Universal Health Services, and Dr. James Huhta. The Pediatric Cardiologist of St. Joseph Children’s Hospital in Tampa Florida gave free examinations to eleven children, five of whom were sponsored by Friends of Pediatrics. As a result of that examination, Dr. Huhta will come back to Belize to perform surgery on two of the patients. Friends of Pediatrics says they will reach even more needy children in 1999 through linkages with doctors in Tampa, Florida, Orange Country, California and Mexico.
