Team Belize on the Path to Winning Gold in Volleyball Championship
Volleyball in Belize has been quite successful in medaling at regional and international competitions. The performance by Team Belize so far in the U-21 Central American Volleyball Championship is promising; they are expected to medal once they beat the Honduran team tonight. President Allan Sharp breaks down what it will take for our team to win gold.
Allan Sharp, President, Belize Volleyball Association
“We have four matches total. We are two and zero. We are looking good. Now we have two more matches tonight and tomorrow night and with a win tonight, we are playing for gold. So the game tonight is very important. The girls know that, the girls are ready. I think the fans will be ready, the fans gotta play their role; we can see the effect they’ve had both on the opposing team as well as on our girls so we definitely are looking forward to it. The girls will have to be playing their game. We have a very strong and talented team. I think they are well-prepared and I think that it is going the way they want it to go. But I cannot overemphasize that Nicaragua who we played on the opening night, we beat three straight, but almost beat Guatemala yesterday. So it shows you that the fans played a big difference against the Nicaragua team. Tonight we expect them to play a big role against the Honduras team and tomorrow against the Guatemala team. They play a great role in affecting the opposing team as well as boasting our girls up.”
