Belize Pummels El Salvador in Central American Volleyball Championship

On Thursday night, Team Belize returned to the court to face off against the team from El Salvador in the nineteenth U-21 Central American Volleyball Championship being held at the Civic Center in Belize City. Team Belize won three sets back-to-back as fans gathered to cheer on our girls in this regional tournament. Tonight the team faces off against a formidable opponent from Honduras. Ahead of this match, News Five spoke with President of the Belize Volleyball Association, Allan Sharp.

“The girls came out last night and played very well against a Salvador team that is normally very strong. Salvador is a team that normally has our number. It started out tight in the first set, but then the girls took over and that was the end of that. They played very well. I think they know that they can still play better and they will play better especially in the game tonight and tomorrow night.”

“Who do they play against tonight?”

Allan Sharp

“They play Honduras tonight. Honduras has only lost a five-setter to Guatemala. Belize has talent. I think that goes without saying. Last night I met a scout. There was a scout there from one of the universities in the U.S. that already have some of our athletes and she came specifically for two days, yesterday and today to come and scout more players, specifically female players. And we know that there are scouts out there right now looking at all the video footage. We have talent. We always knew this. It takes a good program, it takes a lot of investment, it takes a lot of time and a lot of hard work and sacrifice.”
