U-21 Female Volleyball Team Takes Silver at 19th Central American Volleyball Championship.

They did not capture gold, but Belize’s Under Twenty-one Volleyball Team made us proud this weekend as they played their hearts out against Guatemala. Belize took silver at the Nineteenth Under-twenty-one Female Central American Volleyball Championship Games on Saturday night at the Belize Civic Centre. Guatemala won the first set 25-19, then Belize won the other two: 25-20. Belize and Guatemala were tied two sets a piece at the end of the fourth set but Guatemala snagged the fifth set to win gold. President of the Belize Volleyball Association, Allan Sharp said regardless of the outcome, the girls made Belize very proud.

“We were hoping for gold but we knew that in particular Honduras and Guatemala would be tough contenders because they have recently been competing in continental tournaments at the same age group so we knew they would be very tough but we were ready and we were hoping that with the fans’ support and with everything else that was going on that we would manage to intimidate those teams a bit and be able to pull it off. We came very close, our girls gave a tremendous fight. It went to five sets. For a championship match, you can’t ask for better than going to five sets. In a fifth set, it’s like finishing a championship on a last-second shot. You never know what can play in a fifth-set. Yes, the winner will always say they were the better team, but when you get to the fifth set there’s so many things at play. We’re very proud of the girls. We’re very proud of how hard they fought. We’re very proud of how hard they tried to win.”
