Bishop Lawrence Nicasio Receiving Treatment for Cancer
Roman Catholic Bishop Lawrence Nicasio is tonight recovering at Regina Cleri, a home for retired priests in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, Missouri, after he was diagnosed with cancer. A letter dated August first, from Bishop Nicasio, states that he was admitted at Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis in early July and underwent surgery less than two weeks ago, on the twenty-first. It was later discovered that the blockage that was removed from his colon was cancerous and he must now begin further treatment. News Five spoke with Father Noel Leslie.

“He was not feeling well so he chose to go to the U.S. and go do medical examinations and that’s when they found a blockage in his colon. He went to Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis. The operation was carried out at that hospital and they found out when they removed the blockage that it was cancerous. That was according to the report that we got. So because of that now, he will remain there for a little while longer so that he can undergo some other tests to make sure that whatever’s there is removed and whatever treatment he has to receive, he is going to receive that treatment.”
