Story Picture
Another familiar disease has been associated with a fatality, this time in Belize City. Police pathologist Dr. Mario Estradabran reports that, according to his postmortem examination, the man found dead yesterday at the city dump died of tuberculosis. The body of thirty-eight year old Clifford Carr, originally of Dangriga, was discovered at the Belize Waste Control site Monday morning in the abandoned van that he called home. According to health authorities, death from tuberculosis in Belize is extremely rare. While fifty or so cases are reported each year the cure rate is over ninety-nine percent. The chest clinic operated by the Ministry of Health is located on the second floor of the Cleopatra White Health Center. Carr, a well known Belize City vagrant, had not sought treatment at the clinic.
