Soon after her arrival in Belize on December second, Ambassador Michelle Kwan met with Belize’s Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay. She says that the initial meeting was to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between both countries. During her first public engagement as U.S. Ambassador Kwan spoke of her plans during her time here in Belize.

Michelle Kwan, U.S. Ambassador to Belize

“We are going to strengthen the bond between the United States and Belize to strengthen our cooperation, our mutual interests and our friendship between our two countries. Of course, we have shared common values, democratic values of economic prosperity, we have shared values – especially tonight with human rights and fighting against gender-based violence. So, there is much to do and I am looking forward to working with Belizeans. My meeting with the Foreign Minister Courtenay was incredible. We were talking about the importance of our bilateral relationships and as newly minted U.S. Ambassador to Belize, there hasn’t been a U.S. Ambassador for some time now, but I am so proud to represent and be President Biden’s representation in this country. And I stressed the importance of our relationship and to strengthen our bilateral relations and cooperation across the board. I look forward to working across the board with youth and yes I have worked with youth across the board in different countries talking about educational issues, social issues and I will be doing just the same as the U.S. Ambassador to Belize.”
