Foreign Minister Breaks Down Official Visit by Cuban Prez
As for the details of the official visit…Although President Miguel Diaz-Canel will only be in the country for a few hours, the bilateral signals a commitment to cooperation between Belize and Cuba. Minister Courtenay outlines what will take place on Sunday and the significance of the relationship between both countries.
Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs
“This is a return for the visit that the Prime Minister made when he went to Cuba. The president and his delegation will have a bilateral with the prime minister and his delegation. Then there will be an address to a special sitting of the National Assembly which will be broadcasted so that the Belizeans can hear from the Cuban president himself and also the Prime Minister. And then he will meet with the Cuban collaborators and Cuban citizens who are in Belize to make contact with his people and then he leaves shortly thereafter. So it is a very quick visit, but it is important. A state visit by any head of state to another country is a sign and signal to the solidarity, cooperation and the strength of the relationship between two countries. That’s how we would like to characterise this visit. We are very thankful for him to come, to bring his delegation and as I said, we welcome him”
