Health Minister Reacts to Huge Bust of Contraband Medication
There was a huge bust of contraband pharmaceuticals over the weekend in Orange Walk. The information is that customs officials intercepted a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on the San Antonio Road. Inside the vehicle were German Antonio Lobos and Maribel De Leon and over two dozen boxes of illegally imported medications, valued at a little over three hundred and twenty thousand dollars. The boxes were confiscated and the couple was detained. Today, when the media caught up with Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard, he shared his initial reaction.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness
“I can tell you this. When I got wind of that information through a phone call by the way, my response was simple – take the matter to the full extent of the law. We cannot allow – we’ve been hearing these things for years that has been happening, but we cannot allow people to get away. I don’t care who they are. I don’t care which political party they are aligned to or favours; that is health that you are talking about. You are talking about people’s lives – not livelihood, but life – because you cannot allow medications to come into this country without being inspected properly, that has never been approved, they did not get a permit so they did it illegal so you pay for your actions.”
