PM Briceño Engages in Climate Change Discussions in South Korea
Prime Minister John Briceño is in South Korea attending the World Climate Industry Expo – Leaders’ Summit in Busan. At the summit, various countries gather to discuss endeavors and directions to be taken by the international society under the theme of “Global Cooperation and Solidarity for the Fight against Climate Change in the Ocean.” During the visit, PM Briceño seized the opportunity to meet with Doctor Frank Rijsberman, the Director General of the esteemed Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). Founded in 2012, as an international intergovernmental organization, the GGGI is dedicated to fostering a low-carbon resilient world and supporting member nations in transitioning to sustainable green growth models. Collaborating closely with the Green Climate Fund (G.C.F.), the institute prioritizes assisting developing countries in building their capacity and mobilizing climate finance. Recognizing the pressing need to maximize climate finance in Belize, the GGGI extended an invitation to Belize, offering membership benefits that encompass capacity-building programs and technical assistance. The PM also visited the G.C.F. headquarters. Their discussions centred on streamlining the approval process for the Project Preparation Facility, which comprises Belize’s project proposals awaiting the crucial approval of the G.C.F Board of Governors. The Prime Minister is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Courtenay and C.E.O. Doctor Osmond Martinez. He returns on Sunday.
