NHI Rollout in Orange Walk, Over 23,000 Registered in 2 Days
While it may seem secondary to the removal of hospital fees at public clinics and hospitals, National Health Insurance is being rollout in the Orange Walk District. The Minister of Health and Wellness says that since starting on November first, over twenty-tree thousand persons have already registered for N.H.I. The next step is to look at western Belize.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness
“I am very pleased that on Wednesday, we were able to start the rollout of N.H.I. services here at the three approved clinics so far here in Orange Walk. And again, from what I am getting from reports sent yesterday and Wednesday, the people are already taking advantage of it. I understand that we have over twenty-three thousand persons already registered in the district so you will see people are taking advantage of these services. N.H.I. allows our pregnant mothers our females to get mammograms to get their ultrasounds at reasonable copayments and so you are getting other quality care and services at affordable rates. And so, this is really making sure that we have access to healthcare and that’s the commitment of this government. Just as we are planning to ensure that N.H.I. rolls out in the Belize District and again, there is plan for us to look at the fiscal space how we are going to get the west – San Ignacio, Santa Elena and those areas – also enrolled with N.H.I. in the years to come.”
