Pharmaceuticals Continue to be Free at Public Hospitals/Clinics
Health and Wellness Minister Kevin Bernard could not provide an update on the investigation taking place into the fake Tylenol that were found in stores across the country. But when it comes to pharmaceuticals, do those drugs fall within the removal of hospital fees? Minister Bernard says that pharmaceuticals have always been provided free of cost at public hospitals. As a ministry, what they are ensuring is that there is adequate supply.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness
“We have always provided pharmaceuticals free of cost to the patients of this country, to the public hospitals. We have a health budget; it lies within the same health budget, so we will continue to provide that. And as I said, our duty now is to ensure that there is efficient supply of medication in the country. And that’s why we have also fixed the whole tendering process and making sure that people are able to deliver within the time limit within the timeframe given to them by their contract.”
