PUP donates ten thousand dollars to Red Cross for Haiti Relief
The People’s United Party has also joined the efforts to bring hope to Haiti. While at the offices of the Belize Red Cross, we caught up with Leader of the PUP, John Briceño, as he handed over a donation from his party.
John Briceño, Leader, People’s United Party
“We have managed to make a donation of ten thousand dollars and we decided to give it to the Belize Red Cross because over the years the Belize Red Cross has gained the confidence and trust of the Belizean people. We are sure that every dollar that we give them is going to be properly used for our brothers and sisters of Haiti. We felt that we had to do something very quickly. Every relief organization will tell you that the first days and weeks are the most critical because that is when you have people that are in most need and the Red Cross has the record of getting things quickly on the grounds, moving very quickly, getting the supplies and the necessary medicines that the people need. That is why we felt the best thing we can do at this time is to get money to them so that they can buy what it is that is really needed on the ground.”

“So this came from the pockets of the members of the PUP?”
John Briceño
“Yes, what we did, each of the thirty-one executives have been making donations and members of the executive or representatives. So it’s a combined effort and from that combined effort we came up with the sum of ten thousand dollars.”
Briceño added that the PUP will be making a further donation.
