Doctor Pike donates to K.H.M.H. a state of the art lounge
The K.H.M.H, it’s been under fire corruption, lack of equipment and more; but today, medical staff at the nation’s largest public hospital is the beneficiary of a state-of-the-art lounge courtesy of a man who served in the profession locally for thirteen years. Dr. Lennox Pike is now residing and practicing medicine abroad but he has made a significant contribution to the KHMH that will see the hospital’s A&E staff relaxing in comfort. News Five’s Isani Cayetano was on hand for the cutting of the ribbon.

A brief inauguration ceremony was held this afternoon at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where a medical professional lounge was officially opened to K.H.M.H. staff. The facility which was renovated using monies donated by former Chief Medical Officer and renowned physician Dr. Lennox Pike is part of a recently launched public relations initiative. Adopt A Ward, as it is called, is an ongoing program where the business community and other interested patrons can support the upkeep of individual rooms within the hospital.
Dr. Francis Longsworth, C.E.O., K.H.M.H.
“We have something in the order of twenty-five pledges so far for large and small projects within the hospital. We think that we have pledges that will cover most of the major areas that we want to work on and improve. That includes the lobby, the main lobby, the outpatient clinic areas, the external appearance of the hospital, projects related to the wards, capital projects or maintenance. The focus of the lounge is on the A&E staff and the Accident & Emergency Staff work shifts. They don’t get breaks, they don’t get many scheduled breaks when they are on shift and so we thought it would be nice to have an area when things were quiet especially late at night, early in the morning; when things calm down a little that they would have some place to go to.”
The Dr. Lennox Pike Medical Professional Lounge comes equipped with leather couches, a flat screen TV and other modern furniture. The contribution rings in at twenty-five thousand dollars.
Dr. Lennox Pike, Patron, Adopts A Ward Program
“This is one that really turned me on and when I was approached and asked would I be interested to contribute to this program I said yeah, no hesitation. I’d love to. But you need to know that having been Chief Medical Officer at that time Ministers of Health of the Caribbean were in a sort of formative stage, this is very meaningful to me. So the opportunity came and I just seized it.”
Dr. Lennox Pike served as Belize’s first Chief Medical Officer during the mid sixties to the late seventies. He also held the post of Chief Liaison Officer with the Government of Belize and PAHO. He is currently the CEO of his medical consulting firm Pike Consociates. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
According to the hospital’s CEO other companies have committed to adopt remaining wards.
Although I would prefer to see very much that the karl Heusner hospital is updated with modern medical equipments, it is also nice to see when someone takes part in helping a situation to become better.
well let hope that some of the doctors stop be miserable and stop treat patients bad, cause now they will have a place where they can relax and renew themselves before going back to take care of their patients.
