Grace Kennedy target kids in Oral Health week

October is celebrated annually as Oral Health Month worldwide, and in Belize the Ministries of Education and Health teamed up with Grace Kennedy Belize, distributor for Colgate, and kicked off the month of activities to bring attention to good oral practices. And because prevention is better than cure, the target audience is school-age children. Later this month, organizers have earmarked October twenty-fourth to thirty-first as Dental Week under the theme, “Brush Everyday, The Colgate Way”.

“This is an international day and what we did is this Ministry of Health in correlation with Colgate, we are launching off the month, which will lead into the official dental health week at the end of the month. With this activity, it is just to bring awareness to people, particularly the school-age children and their dental health. The kids, particularly in the Belize District area, are very in tuned on dental health because its part of the school curriculum. As you notice, the Ministry of Education is also here. And there is a very good working relationship between the two because health does have a lot to do with education and what we try to do is educate.”

“As part of the Colgate program, we promote an oral health month which is a month of awareness of oral health activities. Colgate is one of the strongest lines in the world in terms of Oral care; toothpaste, toothbrushes and so on. And so part of the program every year is that Colgate puts on, in every country that it is present, an oral health awareness campaign and it’s a month of activities. Primarily, today is the launch and primarily it’s a series of free dental health clinics. As part of this month’s celebration, we’ll be offering free dental screenings, free Colgate products samples and oral health education.”
