KHMH explains morgue policy
The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital this afternoon issued a release on its policies in respect of the morgue. Earlier this week, the family of Sydney Richards and Roy Enriquez complained that they had not been allowed to witness the autopsies conducted on the bodies of both men. Richards was shot and killed on the corner of Zeitown Street and East Canal while Enriquez’s body was found in a drain on Santa Barbara Street. According to the KHMH, “as with all surgical procedures, confidentiality is of paramount importance. Accordingly, relatives and non-relevant personnel are not allowed in the Post Mortem Room while autopsy procedures are being conducted. A family member is only required for the identification of the corpse” The release ends saying that a full account is provided to the family or doctor at the conclusion of the procedure.
I believe that the medical profession and all related procedures have been disrespected in various ways due to patients believing that they are allowed to do or say or see everything they can. If so, then feel free to go and study nursing, or medicine and come and help out your country instead of complaining about the free services you get.

I am American, just moved back to the States after living in Belize for 10 years. In 2003, My husband died in San Pedro, and I PAID to have an autopsy performed by Dr. Estradabran. I was not happy with the way it was handled- let’s leave it at that.
I am an American who just moved back to the US after 10 years in Belize. In 2003, my husband died under suspicous circumstances in San Pedro. I PAID Dr. Estradabran a hefty fee to conduct an autopsy. He took less than 20 minutes and I was NOT satisfied with the finding of ‘inconclusive’!!
Sorry for your loss. I am sorry you were treated so badly and obviously your husbands death was not handled well. My uncle was murdered in Belize and we still do not know who murdered him. Needless to say your story is the same as ours. I want you to know that a lot of Belizean families share your pain – our government seems unable and unwilling to step up to the plate and deal with the crime in this country.
Here we have 2 cases Ms McBride and Ms Baker who have openly given their testimony of being swindled out of money by Dr Estradabran at a desperate time in their life. where is the Belize Medical Council in all of this. How can the country and government of Belize allow this to continue.
what if the body parts are been sold in the black market?
Often times I hear in the news and in I read in autopsy reports that Dr. Estradabran puts the cause of death as “Non-Conclusive”, “Death by asphyxia”, “Death by trauma to the head caused by a blunt object”, “Death caused by multiple gunshot wounds”… etc. I mean come one… Its really disappointing to hear the same thing and sometimes ridiculous causes of death… what about toxicology reports? What about finding out about the person’s history and so on.. so many deaths go as “non-conclusive” and am sorry but in my opinion we lack a professional forensic department…
Since when are families allowed to witness an autopsy??? How many families would be able to actually watch their loved ones being dissected like a frog, or pig in an anatomy class??? ….. I never heard of any family member being present at an autopsy.
I have never, ever heard of a family member(s) being present at an autopsy. How many people could stomach and, or watch their loved ones being dissected like a frog or, pig in an anatomy class???? And even if you did see it, what would you be able to prove???

I understand that there is a lawyer that once stood up against his dead son been taken to hospital after dying….he could not be challenged.
Maybe its time we start following his footsteps and don’t allow our dead loved ones to be taken for autopsy…
