Simplis Telethon to raise $1 Million for Children with Special Needs
A mega telethon is planned for this weekend by Kim Simpliss Barrow and Care Belize. This coming Saturday, the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts will be the venue for the Inspiration Telethon, a first of its kind fundraising effort through which the Special Envoy for Women and Children is hoping to raise a million dollars. The target, once achieved, will be used for the construction of the Inspiration Center, a rehabilitation facility that will provide basic medical care and therapy for children with special needs. While the total cost of building the center is estimated at three million dollars, Kim Simplis-Barrow told us on Wednesday that the goal is attainable.
Kim Simplis Barrow, Special Envoy for Women & Children
“The idea is to get Belizeans at home and abroad to call in and make their pledges towards the Inspiration Center. The Inspiration Center is really a center that will offer therapy to persons with disabilities, children especially so we are hoping to raise a million dollars on Saturday. So it’s really a first of its kind. We have no experience with this but we are trying our best and we are hoping that our Belizeans will call in and make their pledges and companies too can call in and make their pledges.”
Isani Cayetano
“Logistically, it seems sound; you have the cooperation and the partnership of a lot of established businesses and corporations locally and internationally. Do you feel as though a million dollars is farfetched in terms of the amount that most people would be willing to offer?”
Kim Simplis Barrow
“Well, you know we have a goal of a million dollars. Whatever we raise is welcomed, it’s going to help towards the construction of this center that is much, much needed in Belize. So although we are going to be working hard on Saturday to raise that million dollars, our focus is really to create awareness that million dollars, our focus is really to create awareness that day of persons with disabilities and to showcase some of their talents. As you know, we’ll be having entertainment throughout the day at the Bliss so I’m encouraging families to come to the Bliss to see the entertaining.”
An impressive line-up of artists will be performing at the event which will be aired on this station and other media houses beginning at eight o’clock in the morning. So stay tuned for this Saturday’s telethon, live from the Bliss.
one day after a ” Haad times” budjet they want the Belizean people to donate one million dollars to start a building,.. does not make sense to me. who will work in this center. we have no speech therapist in Belize, no occupational therapist in Belize, no child physiotherapist in Belize. no audiologist in Belize. what will we do with a building and no one to do the work. sorry to be the one to burst the bubble, I feel for special needs children as well. I am just being REALISTIC.
Take your GST money and shut up we are tired of you already.
Belizean are poor and you are rich. You donate the money greedy beach.
WTF, You are right on. Typical Belize. Put the carriage before the horse. No constructive planning. They need to take that effort and do something about crimes. At the rate they are going, there will be only little old ladies left (maybe), The youths will be killed off. The wild, wild, west!!!
