2012 Olympics get underway in London
The 2012 Olympics officially opened in London today. A Belizean delegation left this past Saturday to represent the Jewel in disciplines of athletics and Judo. First to compete will be Eddermys Sanchez, who will participate on Sunday morning in Judo, sixty-six kg. According to Sanchez’ coach, Wellington Chee, who has been in touch with this station, the athlete was selected in a computerized draw on Thursday to be moved up as if he had already won a round. There was, however, a dispute over attire for the draw. Chee says that the team leader wanted them to wear their National Olympic Committee uniform, but like others, to be on the safe side, he went with a suit and tie as requested by the International Judo Federation. On the athletics side of the Belize delegation is Kaina Martinez, who will run the one hundred meter women’s sprint and Kenneth Medwood, who will compete in the four hundred meter men’s hurdles. If you want to catch the Belizean athletes in action, the Olympic Games will also be aired locally by cable operators and on Channel Seven.
I’m looking forward to seeing our Belizean Olympians and wish them well! We should all be proud of their talent and efforts.
And whether we win or lose, I’m looking forward to seeing some great performances and sportsmanship. The Olympic ideal reveals the best of humanity, and it’s a welcome relief from the depressing things we see too often from the worst among us.
big up the athletes dem/////nuff respect////represent well
Belize should have sent persons for the shooting competition.
There are lots of them guys in Belize City who practice shooting daily.
It was our chance for the Gold.
GO TEAM BELIZE…
We should have sent team udp to represent us for incompetence that would have been our gold medal.

Belize sends a Cuban to represent them in judo, what happen to our belizean born athletes, lets us work with our own. in two years time this Cuban will go to the US, like they all do.shame on the Belize olympic commitee.

The olympic games are refreshing to humanity especially these days with so much negative news from all over the world. As Belizeans we are with our athletes in spirit. Go for it Belize.Who knows? We might get lucky.
