Vote taken at UN to recognize Palestine as non-member observer state

The United Nations recorded a historic vote today; member states voted to recognize Palestine as a non-member observer state. One hundred and thirty eight members voted in favor while nine, including the United States, Israel and Canada, voted against. The vote came after impassioned speeches from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who asked the UN to “issue the birth certificate of Palestine. Belize has always supported the right to self determination of the Palestinian people.

Does Belize also support the right of existence for Israel? The Palestinians do not, it’s in their charter.

It’s hard for the General Assembly to deny that right, since it was created by the UN itself in 1948. But the UN has changed, and Belize voted with a lot of dictators and Islamist governments today. For shame.

I support Israel as the only light of democracy in the region.

I’m a devout Christian, too, and there are strong Biblical reasons to support Israel, since the Bible says clearly that Israel must be re-established [it has been] and the Temple rebuilt [not yet] before Christ returns.

But for today, I’m embarrassed we voted with terror states & tyrants in favor of a “state” that pours rockets into Israel hundreds of times each year. Imagine what we would think if the Guats lobbed rockets into our schools and buses on a more or less daily basis?

Woe to Belize for supporting Gods enemies!!! Israel also has a right for safety. And these Palestinians are people that dont care for life. I am so sorry that Belize is supporting this evil

  3. History Minded says:

Congratulations to Belize for supporting the rights of self determination. We were recently in this position 32 years ago

I for one am proud of Belize in taking making the right vote. Ok so a lot of the actions of the Palestinians have been reprehensible and left much to be desired. They did cheer when the Twin Towers went down in New York and as a majority does support a lot of terrorist activities.

Hopefully the day will never come, but if Guatemala was to ever take over Belize, they would have a 100 year guerrilla war on their hand from patriots that they would label terrorist.

This is from the UN web site. The representative of Guatemala said his delegation had abstained in the vote on the resolution in spite of the fact that it embraced the right of peoples to self-determination.

Belize should not be a country in support of denying a “free people” the right to their own home land. I do believe that if they had their own state, with a functioning government that can be held responsible by the World. The World would be in a lot better position. Our situation with Guatemala should give us pause for cause.

@Belizean, you’re right. Modern Israel was created by a UN resolution in 1948, and now the UN General Assembly — with GOB’s vote! — supports a “nation” that denies Israel’s right to EXIST.

The Palestinians fire hundreds of missiles EVERY YEAR into Israel. How would PM Barrow react if Guatemala fired missiles like that into Belmopan? (Now I realize that was a bad comparison; Barrow would probably pay the Guats compensation for the missiles they used.)

    We voted with evil yesterday.

For those of you who don’t know, the Israeli / Palestinian affair is comparable to the Guatemala / Belize situation. Israel claims the land of Palestine pretty much the same way that Guatemala has this unfounded claim over Belize. In fact if Guatemala decides to invade Belize, they most likely will be doing so with the capability of Israeli intelligence and military might.
So I would not be so quick you all, to be getting in bed with the Israelis.
Much is said about the rocks and rockets the Palestians launch across the border, however, very little or nothing is said when Israel unleaches the wrath of it’s military arsenal with nuclear capabilities at a defenseless people.
And if you think they don’t have some of that hardware at Poptun in the Peten, you better think again.

Karl, Challenge accepted anytime. The only reason Guatemala has not taken over Belize is because you’re one of UK’s bitches. Israel has always been Guatemala’s ally and it’s just pathetic to compare your petty state with a great nation as Israel. We already had 30 years of civil war and taking on you will be a pleasure. Cheers!!!!
