Enrique Pena Nieto, Mexico’s new president

The new government of Mexico was installed over the weekend. The PRI’s Enrique Pena Nieto took over the five year term presidency from Felipe Calderon of the PAN which was in government for twelve years.  Pena Nieto was sworn in on Saturday and his cabinet comprises twenty ministers or secretaries as they are called in Mexico which is made up of new and familiar faces. Notably, is the foreign Minister, José Antonio Meade Kuribreña, who served in the Calderon administration as the Minister of Finance. Closer to home, Pedro Joaquin Coldwell, who has been named Minister of Energy is known to many in Belize.  Coldwell was the governor of Quintana Roo from 1981-1987 and up until his appointment, was the chairman of the ruling party. Pena Nieto is proposing to reduce the number of ministries by two. His priority is to stimulate the Mexican economy to create jobs which in turn is expected to reduce violence.
