McAfee, locked up in Guatemala for now
The saga of anti-virus founder John McAfee continued today with juicy gossip posted on his blog from an immigration center in Guatemala City to which he has returned after a brief hospitalization for chest pains. McAfee’s high profile lawyer Telesforo Guerra has filed legal challenges to stave off his deportation to Belize for questioning in the murder of his neighbor Gregory Faull. The media has been having a field day on the minute to minute twists in the McAfee’s story as has News Five’s Jose Sanchez.

While John McAfee was in hiding, his location became public when an iphone photo taken with a representative of Vice Magazine, broadcast his whereabouts in Rio Dulce, Guatemala. He fled to Guatemala City where he asked political asylum, even though he is only wanted for questioning in Belize. He gave interviews to every international media house that was available.

“Why didn’t you take a lawyer, somebody you trusted; go to the police, talk to them; hash this all out?”
John McAfee
“If only one-tenth of what I am saying is true, then I’m going to go in with a lawyer, things gonna be very polite and they’re gonna say, “Ah because you said this, we think maybe you might have done that so we’re going to have to detain you. Do you think that the system of justice works in Belize like it does in America? It does not.”
His story of his escape from Belize was so preposterous, an animation was created and posted on youtube. His infamy got him arrested for illegal entry to Guatemala. But his cash allowed him to be taken seriously by one of Guatemala’s best Attorney’s Telesforo Guerra.
Teleforo Guerra, John McAfee’s Attorney
“I spoke yesterday to the American Counsel they said they will see what they can do. It is strange because under normal circumstances, the first thing they would do is to look after the affairs and interests of their citizens and that their rights are respected. And in this case, I imagine, there is a requirement by the government of Belize, so that the US Embassy does not intervene to safeguard their national.
McAfee did not suffer a heart attack as his attorney reported. However, his presence even got the attention of the president.
Otto Fernando Pérez Molina, President Guatemala
“If he came here from Belize following the homicide of his neighbor, it means there is no political persecution. And if he’s wanted for questioning, there is no political persecution in the investigation that is ongoing. We will not allow persons to come to Guatemala who are fleeing from an investigation. In any case we will ask Mr. McAfee to present himself to Belize.”
And while most people want the saga to end, it will continue upon his deportation. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.
Well said by Mr. President from Guatemala Otto Perez Molina, what else would we want to hear?
