David Price flown to Cuba for medical care
David Price, Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the Development Finance Corporation, was flown out to Cuba for medical care yesterday afternoon after his condition worsened over the weekend. Reports indicate that the trip went well for Price, who was transferred smoothly to a Havana hospital following arrangements coordinated by the Cuban embassy in Belize and Belize’s embassy in Cuba. There were apparently some tense moments in financing the emergency evacuation and News Five has learned that although the Belize Government is paying the nearly nineteen thousand U.S. dollar cost of the air ambulance, it was quick action by businessman Tony Zabaneh who allowed the plane to be dispatched by putting up his credit card for the full amount. As for the future work of the Commission, things are not so clear. The Prime Minister has said that he did not see why it couldn’t continue with the two remaining members but Commissioners Merlene Bailey-Martinez and Herbert Lord are taking things one day at a time. They are expected to meet later in the week to discuss the situation.
