The 43rd Annual Assembly of the O.A.S. to be held in Antigua, Guatemala

The Organization of American States will be meeting in Antigua, Guatemala beginning this Tuesday. Among the twenty-eight of thirty-four foreign ministers who will be in Antigua is Belize’s Foreign Minister, Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington. The forty-third annual assembly will be looking at the problem of drugs in the Americas and will conclude with the Declaration of Antigua, Guatemala. The technical teams have been meeting so that when the assembly gets underway, the ministers will be making their contributions to the debate on how to combat drugs and weapons that transit the region. Now, in the margins of the regional meeting, Foreign Minister Elrington is expected to meet with his Guatemalan counterpart, Fernando Carrera on the issue of the referendum which Guatemala has accepted to hold in 2014, although there is no specific date. At that bilateral meeting, the O.A.S. Secretary General, Miguel Angel Insulza, is also expected to be present.
