N.H.I. rolled out in two southern districts
It has taken a while, but on Monday government and the Social Security Board rolled out the National Health Insurance programme in the Stann Creek and Toledo Districts. Speaking in separate ceremonies in Punta Gorda and Dangriga, Prime Minister Said Musa says the initiative will benefit those who need it most.
Prime Minister Said Musa
?This extension of N.H.I. will provide access to quality and affordable health services to approximately forty-five thousand more Belizeans. Many of whom, undoubtedly are the most excluded and vulnerable groups in our nation. Whether they are indigenous people or just poor people living here in the Toledo District, N.H.I. should benefit all of you.?
The four new N.H.I. clinics are located in Dangriga, Punta Gorda, San Antonio and Independence. They will open in less than two months following installation of equipment and hiring of staff. Stann Creek and Toledo join the south side of the Belize District as the current operating areas of N.H.I.
