Kettle Appeal marks the beginning of the Christmas season

In Belize, Christmas time is always defined at its start by an annual invitation to those who have a little more to give generously to those with a little less. The Salvation Army launched that grand effort today under pouring skies that did very little to dampen the cheer present in the eyes of those in attendance. The charitable organization is partnering for the third consecutive year with First Caribbean International Bank, which gave fifteen thousand dollars to the appeal. The cheque was handed over by General Manager Glenford Smith. There was plenty caroling, provided by the children of the Salvation Army Primary School. While he did not come bearing gifts, Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley did offer the good wishes of the City to the effort. He spoke of how important the difference the Salvation Army makes at this time of the year.

“I see an active heart, I see a servance heart, I see a compassion for our community. I am personally acquainted with many of the great work that the Salvation Army is doing in the city and throughout the country. And behalf of the residence of Belize I want to express our sincerest gratitude. They say you know the Christians by their love and the Salvation Army continuously show their love for the people of this city and for the people of this country and for that we are eternally grateful.”

The kettles are out at the usual sites including James Brodie, Save-U Supermarket, Augusto Quan and Angelus Press until Christmas Eve. The Salvation Army hosts a Christmas party for over seven hundred children every year and gives food hampers and assistance to needy families
