Carlos Moreno approved as US Ambassador to Belize

Carlos Moreno

The United States Embassy in Belize, since the departure of Ambassador Vinai Thummalapally last year, has remained without an ambassador.  Currently, Margaret Hawthorne is at the helm of the embassy as Charge d’ Affaires.  While ambassador designate, Carlos Moreno, a former United States judge, was nominated in October 2013 following President Obama’s reelection, his appointment was delayed. The deferral was the result of ongoing differences within the U.S. Senate, which affected diplomatic appointments to a number of other countries.  On Wednesday, Moreno was given the green light to proceed to Belize as the United States Ambassador.
