K.H.M.H. says decaying fetus is a “product of conception”

The discovery of a fetus under a bed is the latest scandal to hit the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. On Friday, a decomposed fetus was discovered only when an Orange Walk patient in the Observation Ward alerted hospital personnel. According to a police release captioned ‘abandoned fetus,’ it was found at around eight p.m. when a patient complained about the smell coming from under her bed. A search led to the discovery of the fetus in a white box. Since then, despite multiple inquiries, the national referral hospital has refused to provide any information on the disturbing discovery. We were told only to contact the Police. We did that, and were informed that the K.H.M.H. administration has handed over a long list of persons who passed through the ward. Police have started the process of questioning those persons, but caution that it will be a long and protracted process. This afternoon the K.H.M.H. finally broke silence, in a matter of speaking. A press release was issued entitled – “Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Responds to Recent Media Reports.” The release does not use the word fetus, calling it instead a “discovery of products of conception.” The K.H.M.H. apologized for the negative impact to patients and members of the general public, claiming that an immediate investigation was launched. The release states that, “our internal investigation revealed a clear link between a patient encounter and the product of conception, and sadly established that appropriate procedures were not followed. We can report, however, that the patient was managed appropriately and discharged.” The release ends by stating that the K.H.M.H. is committed to addressing the weaknesses identified in this incident and will be taking appropriate disciplinary measures. We note that the Police told us that they have a long list of persons to interview to find a connection to the ‘product of conception,’ while the K.H.M.H. release indicates that they have already identified that patient, and discharged her.

What the hell is going on at our hospital? A decaying fetus under a bed!? This is ridiculous! What the hell is the Min. of Health doing? Nothing but squandering our tax dollars. Come on, at least sweep the flooring properly. Total ineptness as usual from GOB.

I love my country and there is much there to love, but is there any department of government or any division in a department of government that functions with little or no drama?

When will Belizeans get enough of this style of governing and force change?

    Sad! Really Sad!
