UB appoints Alan Slusher as president
Former advisor to the Prime Minister, Alan Slusher has been formally appointed as President to the University of Belize. Slusher is the sixth president to be named head of UB since 2000. He replaces Doctor Carey Fraser who left UB abruptly in a swirl of controversy. In fact, there was turmoil at the university on his departure and it was known that Fraser did not see eye to eye with the Board of Trustees and the Minister of Education. While Slusher’s appointment is with effect of June first, he was holding the post as interim president since April. Slusher has held various high profile jobs in the public service, the Caribbean Development Bank, World Bank, Central Bank, Belize Telemedia and is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Belize Electricity Ltd. When it first became known that he would be heading UB, the explanation was that his business augment was required to take the university forward.
Despite the impressive list of employers where Slusher worked , we don’t have a report on his authenticated evaluation and performance. This then begs the question, did he perform those jobs as he has performed his jobs at Belize Central Bank, B.E.L. et al. We know from the actual, physical evidence around us that the Belize economy is in a depression and at Central Bank he never formulated a single policy to implement to alleviate the economic mess. We know that he transferred $50 million in currency from SSB to B.E.L. as a loan. This could have been accomplished between government departments by a single accounting unit creation and attach a loan note. These are only two flagrant abusive examples but his entire tenure in Belize is replete with actions like these to please Barrow and Lois and brother Deny ( that unholy lot/crap from the Caribbean). So be off with you Barrow, you slime ball.
A sad day for UB. Of course it is our students who lose from these political games.
