Housing Min says N.T.U.C.B. wants to take over commission

It is not only the sudden change of heart to join the Venezuelan housing committee that has Finnegan upset with the National Trade Union Congress. He says that they want to take over the Commission of Inquiry that the Prime minister has sanctioned to investigate the procurement practices of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. And in his opinion it shouldn’t and it won’t happen.

“The law gives the prime minister that authority to set up a commission of inquiry, to place a chairman on that inquiry, to add two other organizations to that inquiry. They were invited to be a part of this commission of inquiry because the government is serious in that our social partners should be a part of the process. We noh only—you can’t only mek we be part ah dis commission of inquiry, we wah choose who wah be di chair of the commission. That is to me, my humble submission, no respect to nobody, I think dat dah disrespect.”

“Man I don’t think so mein. I just believe that is a unilateral position by one person.”

“I don’t know and I won’t call a name and we noh into mek mischief. We want to work with our social partners. Me, personally want them to be the watch dog of the country especially now you have such a powerful government with so much seat and you have an opposition that is very weak and shaky, it is imperative that the news media and the social partners pick up the slack for the opposition.”
