And there was other significant news from CEO Longsworth – Director of Finance Carlos Perrera is no longer at the KHMH. The controversial Perrera has been under sustained fire from the Board of Directors at the KHMH, who made no secret of the fact that they wanted him out. Longsworth gave us an update on that situation, but first we asked him about a recent investigation into the purchase of two vans for the KHMH. The Audit Committee of the KHMH paid particular attention to that purchase, and the investigation was recently concluded, though the findings have not been made public.

“The investigation has been finished. The outcome of the investigation does not indicate that anything illegal or untoward happened, but I would leave that up to the Audit Committee and the Chair of the Board to decide where to go with that.”

“Could you give us an idea of what prompted that investigation?”

“No…it was just an initiative to get needed transportation for the hospital at a decent price. And that’s all it was. It was an honest initiative to do well for the hospital in terms of doing well for the hospital in terms of providing transportation.”

“In understand that part, but what prompted the audit Committee to want to look into that matter?”

Dr. Gary Longsworth

“There was a lot of speculation and innuendo and that’s why they felt the need to investigate it…that’s about it.”

“Your Director of Finance…could you tell us what is his status at this time? I understand that he had announced, at least to his colleagues, that he would be removing himself from that post.”

Dr. Gary Longsworth

“In fact I don’t know if you noticed, but he has left the institution about two, two and a half weeks ago. And we have started advertising…we’ve been advertising for a Director of Finance for the past three weeks in the newspapers so we welcome candidates for the position.”

“Would you be able to give us an idea of what led to that…what would you call it, a resignation…on his part?”

Dr. Gary Longsworth

“Well he had expressed that he wanted to leave for some time and we had mentioned that. The press knew about that, so it was just a process that we were going through of mutual separation.”

Dr. Longsworth has assumed the responsibilities of Director of Finance until a suitable replacement is found.
