Bizarre Home Invasion – Four Shot One Killed…

There was deadly invasion in the early hours of Saturday morning. It was over in a matter of minutes, but by then one man was dead and three women injured.   Tacos vendor, Carlos Mayorga was shot on the neck and chest and died in the bedroom of his house on Mopan Street. Three women, Sijihan Avila, Alida Asencio and Karina Avila were at Mayorga’s house preparing food they would sell near the K.H.M.H. when the two armed men entered through the back door and attacked the group. In the chaos, Mayorga handed over two thousand dollars in cash, but that did not prevent his execution nor did it stop one of the men from opening fire on the women. It is believed that the suspects are known to the victims and this is why police are providing protection around the clock to the surviving women. Duane Moody reports.

The blood-stained mattress outside a house on Mopan Street, located behind where the City Center once stood, was the telltale sign of a home invasion turned murder. Some time before five a.m. on Saturday, tacos vendors, fifty-two Carlos Mayorga and three women were prepping for their daily tacos sales, when they were attacked by two men who entered their home. The two assailants wielded a firearm and knife and demanded money.

“Sometime around five a.m., police from Precinct One responded to a report of shots being fired at forty-seven Mopan Street. Upon their arrival at that residence, they saw the lifeless body of Carlos Mayorga, fifty-two year old, a food vendor of the same address suffering from apparent gunshot wound to the back of his neck and left shoulder in a kneeling position inside his room at the foot of his bed. Also there were three other females: Sijihan Avila, nineteen year old who was suffering from gunshot wound to the left chest and left side of the abdomen. Karina Avila, nineteen year old, also suffering from gunshot wound as well to the left arm and forty-two year old Alida Asencio, a Honduran food vendor of the same address. Initial investigations reveal that these four persons were preparing food when two male persons entered the home from the back door and made demands for money.”

All four were taken inside Mayorga’s bedroom and forced to their knees by the assailants. Mayorga opened a locker, which was secured with a pad lock, and handed over two thousand dollars in cash. But before the aggressors fled the scene, they shot him to the back of the neck and also targeted the Avilas and Asencio. The three women were rushed to the K.H.M.H. and are currently under police guard. Asencio is critical.

“One of the male persons who was carrying the firearm—there were two persons: a short one and a taller one—the short one who had in his possession the firearm, then pointed the gun at Mayorga and a shot which caught him in the back of the head. He then pointed the gun single times at each female and fired a shot which caused their injury. Mayorga succumbed to their injury while the other three females are in the hospital recovering. At this time, we have three persons in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
