Councillor Eric Chang Bows Out of City Hall Convention…

While Mayor Bradley aspires to a seat in the House of Representatives in the distant future, Councilor Eric Chang will not be running for another term at City Hall.  A recent revelation of a list of candidates shows that Chang’s name is absent from the slate.  When pressed for a reason as to why Chang has chosen not to run for a third term in office, Mayor Bradley says that it’s a question for Chang to answer.

“I saw the listing, in terms of councilors, Eric Chang’s name was not on there.  He’s come to council meetings since then, he’s participated actively in the council since then.  He’s indicated to us because several other councilors had asked about it that he had other priorities and other plans, I don’t know if it’s in relation to him not submitting his name or his not intending to run for council if that has anything to do with the allegations being brought up against him or if it has anything to do with his personal feelings.  That is something that you have to ask Eric Chang himself directly and I am sure that he would comment on that. I said that Eric Chang is a good councilor in relation to the work that he has done.  I personally know that when we have hurricanes, when we have other issues he is one of the first councilors always to be out there.  He volunteers at the Supreme Court to provide translation services whenever a crime has happened against any Chinese or Taiwanese he’s always the first person on the scene to provide transportation services or whatever kind of support services that is needed.  All of that indicates to me that he has discharged the responsibilities of which I have care over to a way that I think comports with our good standards.”

A convention for the upcoming U.D.P. City Council slate will be held this Sunday.
