PM Says Concern About Puerto Azul is Premature…
The Prime Minister was also asked for his response to a move by environmental and conservation entities who have expressed concern about the proposed scale of the mega-tourism Puerto Azul project. They say that the Italian developers have already been given a terms of reference for an EIA on the project. Well today, PM Barrow maintained that he still has no idea what the project is, and while he admires their zeal…he can’t help but believe that it’s premature.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“My difficulty is that I don’t quite know what the project is…that is, these people came with some ideas, with a concept. They were told what they needed to do to as it were flesh out that concept and some of the things that from the start would be a no go. As far as I am aware that process is not yet completed. So I am supportive of the notion that the watchdog groups ought to be, if not previous certainly pre-emptive in terms of discharging their role, but I don’t quite understand how they can speak with any degree of accuracy about what is wrong or what needs to be done when no scope in terms of this project has yet been agreed by this government.”
According to the P.M., one of the things that was a no-go from the start was the runway on the reef.
I would not trust this man if he told me the sun was shining! Again, pulling the “Mi no noh” crap. Why doesn’t he ask his ministers that were sent over to Cannes to fill him in? What’s wrong? You’re cut ain’t big enough? Stick to the Tourism Master Plan that we agreed upon. Simple . . just do your job.
