Cycling Icon Sent Off In Grand Style
The funeral of Ernest ‘JawMeighan’ Meighan this afternoon at Central Assembly of God drew hundreds of mourners, one of the largest gatherings of funeral-goers in Belize City of late. The audience was comprised of cyclists in uniform, childhood friends of the slain rider, family and friends, as well as onlookers who drove slowly in order to take in the sights and sounds of a parade that was a sad but fitting farewell for one of Belize’s most prolific athletes. The following is our valediction to JawMeighan.

Fitzgerald Palas Joseph, Friend of JawMeighan
“He represented Belize in all the international meets, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, Central American and the Caribbean Games, Caribbean Games, Central American Games…all international races, JawMeighan was there. And sometimes he was scared and certainly he made us proud whenever he represented us abroad. God certainly blessed us when he made JawMeighan because nobody in Belize can boast such a victory. He was special in the light as a family man his love and dedication to cycling was the same to his family and friends. He didn’t fight nor quarrel with anyone.”
Santiago Castillo, Former Employer/Friend of JawMeighan
“I am going to read a poem for him on Wednesday night which is behind the brochure. Once a day and sometimes more you nock upon my door. And I say come on in Jaw. I am glad you are here with me my friend. We would sit and have our usual chat, regarding this, discussing that. Then I realized it’s just a dream sometimes. While here in Belize the country is mad we lost our hero our champ, it is so sad. But God had better plans for you. So goodbye my friend, my brother, my son, while you were here it was the greatest fun.”
Damn so sad. My Belize so sad.
I agree
